Guide to Bronzers

Bronzer : What is it?

Bronzer1

A bronzer is a sunless tanning solution that involves a spray-on procedure. Used in tanning salons, it is used in most cosmetic stores depending on the type of bronzer.  It is a fast and effective way to get a golden bronze color without staying under the sun for too long or taking the risk of skin damage caused by using a tanning bed. Depending on the type of bronzer, it can be temporary or semi-permanent.

Kinds of Bronzers include the following:

DHA solution

  • According to the Academic Press Dictionary of Science and Technology, dihydroxyacetone (DHA) is a “colorless, hygroscopic, crystalline powder soluble in water and alcohol.”
  • The DHA solution initially has no visible effect.
  • It begins to react with the skin and develops color only after two to four hours after spraying.
  • It has a solution of 3% to 5% DHA ratio.
  • It is available in different viscosities for use in different purposes.
  • It produces a water-resistant tan that can last three to five days.
  • It diminishes only when the dead cells of the skin flake off.
  • It is a purely cosmetic tan that does not produce the same effect as a traditional tan.

Cosmetic bronzer

  • A cosmetic bronzer shows immediate results upon spraying.
  • It washes off easily upon showering.

Erythrulose

  • The erythrulose is similar to the DHA solution, but it is a slower-reacting bronzer. .
  • It can work together with the DHA to produce a more natural looking tan.
  • It is more expensive than the DHA.
  • It creates a more luxurious tan that reduces the drying effect associated with the DHA process.
  • Color change happens two to three days after spraying.
