Hot Pack : What is it?
| Hot packs are pouches containing substances that generate heat when plugged into an electrical outlet, heated in the microwave, or immersed in hot water. They are placed over a particular area of the body to relieve pain, increase the extensibility of soft tissues, remove cell toxins, enhance blood flow, and encourage muscle relaxation. They are commonly used in homes, physical therapy centers, hospitals, and athletic training rooms. |

Kinds of Hot Packs include the following: |
Electric hot packs
- Electric hot packs use electricity to generate heat.
- They heat fast and easily.
- However, they generate a high level of electromagnetic fields (EMF) that can cause sparks, harmful heat conduction, and fire.
Gel hot packs
- Gel hot packs contain gel substances designed to be heated in hot water or in the microwave.
- They gradually cool off after heating.
- They are very safe to use.
- However, they require reheating once they have totally cooled off.
Self-heating iron ore hot packs
- Self-heating iron ore hot packs contain several pieces of iron ores that heat by themselves.
- They provide approximately eight hours of steady heat that allows continuous use.
- However, they can only be used once.
- They also get too hot, sometimes.
Fusion hot packs
- Fusion hot packs are recent heating pack innovations.
- They contain salt crystals that generate heat through the physics of crystallization.
- Like gel packs, they can be heated in hot water.
- They maintain a constant high temperature for two hours.
- They can be used outdoors or during travel as long as they are prepared beforehand.
