Mobility Scooter : What is it?
| A mobility scooter, also known as a power-operated scooter, is an alternative to the wheelchair configured like a motor scooter. It is used for transporting disabled people outdoors.
A mobility scooter consists of a seat mounted on the two rear wheels, a platform for the feet, handlebars used for steering, brakes, a drive train, a power system, and a tiller in front for forwarding or reversing directions, and controlling the speed. A battery power source is stored onboard the scooter. It can be charged onboard or through a separate charger unit from a standard electric outlet. A gasoline-powered mobility scooter is also available, but it is fast being replaced by the electric models. |
