Straight Razor : What is it?
| A straight razor is a sharp knife blade used for shaving facial hair. Also known as a cutthroat razor, it is made with a long, sharp blade with a rounded edge, which is connected to a wooden or plastic handle that serves as the blade's container when folded. The handle has two scales made of wood, plastic, celluloid, or mother-of-pearl that protect the blade from damage. The straight razor emerged before the 20th century, and it was the main shaving tool until the 1950s. Today, it has been replaced by disposable and electric razors, which are easier to use, although it is still used in barber shops and salons. Shaving with a straight razor requires practice. It must always be sharp to ensure a safe and clean shave. |
