Tanning booths are small chambers that create artificial tans. They work by exposing the skin to ultraviolet (UV) light, creating an effect similar to sun tanning. The user stands or sits inside the booth while lamps project UV rays from all sides. Sunless tanning lotions or sprays are commonly used to speed up the tanning process. Each session takes 15 to 45 minutes, depending on the desired tan.
Construction: Choose a tightly sealed tanning booth to keep the UV rays from escaping. Check the seams between the door and the wall to see if there are any cracks. Make sure the door opens easily to prevent burning. Wattage: Choose a tanning booth with a power rating of 160 watts or lower. Look for power saving features like timed shutoff and UV reflectors. Look for one that uses VHO-R lamps, which have built-in reflectors that maximize UV transmission.
