Wheelchair ramps are inclined pathways used by disabled persons in wheelchairs for accessing elevated areas in houses, buildings, shopping malls, airports, and even vehicles. They are made with nonskid surfaces and handrails at both sides to make accessing the ramps easier and more convenient.
The Americans with Disabilities Act requires public buildings to have wheelchair ramps to be use by those in wheelchairs. Residences are not required to have them, unless a household member uses a wheelchair or a walker.
Materials used: Choose a portable wheelchair ramp made of anodized aluminum for corrosion and rust resistance.
Length: Choose a wheelchair ramp in a length according to your wheelchair’s maximum allowable incline. Most motorized wheelchairs have a maximum allowable incline of six to nine degrees.
