Iron : What is it?
| The iron consists of a flat metal base that is electrically heated to remove wrinkles from clothes. It has a handle and a temperature knob for controlling the heat. The iron works by loosening the bonds of the fiber's polymer molecules; while the molecules are loose (or hot), the fibers are straightened by the weight of the iron, holding their shape as they cool. There are different ironing methods for different types of fabrics and clothes. Ironing instructions must be followed for delicate fabrics such as silk, linen, and cotton. |

Kinds of Irons include the following: |
Dry iron
- The dry iron is the traditional type of iron; it is simply plugged into a wall socket and the temperature is adjusted to suit the ironing requirements.
- It has simple operating features and does not require water to work.
Steam iron
- The steam iron uses water to produce steam to make creases disappear faster.
- A small amount of steam is applied on the clothes while flattening them with the hot iron.
- Compared to the dry iron, the steam iron produces better results.
Steam/spray iron
- The steam/spray iron has a small water spray housed in front of the iron.
- It allows the person to spray or ad moisture to the clothes when necessary, making it easier to press bone dry clothes.
Steam/spray/shot iron
- The steam/spray/shot iron releases a blast of steam through the metal plate, directly to the fabric.
- It is ideal for ironing certain fabrics such as denim.
Steam generator iron
- The steam generator iron allows a constant flow of high-pressure steam for application.
- It offers the best results in the fastest time.

Metal: Choose an iron that has a stainless steel plate for a smoother glide. Stainless steel also allows better heat distribution.
Anti-scale: Look for a (wet) iron that has an automatic water filtration system to prevent the buildup of limescale inside the iron.
