Moderately priced, this classic steam-and-dry iron comes unencumbered with bells and whistles but delivers on ironing day with 1100 watts of power and a polished aluminum soleplate that heats up extra hot for pressing away tough wrinkles. The iron operates the old-fashioned way: Press a button on the handle for dry ironing, or pop it up for steam. Fill the water tank through the large hole on the front of the handle. Turn the dial to select temperature, using the large, easy-to-read guide printed on the iron. The iron has a comfortable handle and the soleplate has a button guide. I bought this iron and gave my old one away. I thought it would work like an old fashioned heavy iron. It does not get hot enough for most of my needs. The steam feature is more of a stream, or droplet feature than steam. I was very disappointed.
I do like that it has a safety and turns off after a certain amount of time.

This "classic" is by looks only. The iron plate itself is *not* stainless steel (it's not even ceramic). Rather, it aluminum, which does not glide well over most materials. Also the steamer is very weak compared to most other steam irons on the market (and there is no steam burst feature). Lastly, the iron needs to be turned up all the way on the hottest setting to perform as required---don't even bother with any other setting. Overall, it was a disappointment. You can buy a cheap GE/Roweta and get better performance.

I bought this iron about three weeks ago and was VERY disappointed with it. It didn't heat properly and the sole plate was awful, it wasn't smooth but was brunished which made it want to grab and hold the fabric. It's heavier that other irons which should have made wrinkle removal easier, didn't happen. I took it back and exchanged it for anothe Black and Decker iron which I will review on another page. J. This Iron is a Poorly Operating Sample (P.O.S.)! It has two controls; Temperature & Yes/No for Steam. If I was going to put only two controls on an item, I would make sure both worked. Black & Decker thought that was too much effort. Does it get hot? More or less. Does it make steam? No. Nein. Nicht. Bu how. Nadda. Zero. It does make an Excellent door stop.

I have a defected iron OR this is the way it is suppose to be. I wish I had never ordered on line. I should have gone to true hardware and then I could have taken it back. The back of the iron hangs up on the clothes you are trying to iron. I had this exact iron about 10 years ago and remember it being great. When I found it on line I was excited. I say do not buy this iron. The "back of the iron" will drag on your clothes as you are ironing no matter what you do. It needs to be cut down. If I had kept my box and ticket I would send it back immediately..As is, I now have an iron that is of no use to me. The good thing about the Classic Metal Iron is the heat. It gets hot enough to iron your clothes - if it was not for the "back hang" it would be great.Black & Decker F63D The Classic Metal Iron
