Rating : Brother sewing/embroidery machine - Ruth Vanneman, Apr 29, 2008
The Brother sewing/embroidery machine is basically quite good. My main complaint would be the threading procedure which has a distinct Rube Goldberg quality and could be much improved on.
Rating : Glad I bought it, but had some problems. - LLL, Apr 27, 2008
I've had the machine for approximately 3 yrs. I bought it because I wanted to make curtains since they are so expensive to buy. Well, I got pregnant and in the years I've owned this, I ended up making several curtains, roman shades, pillows, blankets & both my daughter's crib bedding. I'm by no means an expert, just took the basic sewing class at JoAnn's and learned from there.
The embroidery is the reason I bought it. I've embroidered my little girls initials on blankets to take to day care. Several of the ladies at day care comment on the embroidery, but I tell them it's the sewing machine and it's a piece of cake to do. My family & my husband's brother's family went down to Disney for a family trip and I ended up making us homemade shirts. We each had a Disney character in the center of the shirt, our name on the right upper corner & our last name with the year on the back. I thought the shirts turned out pretty good, but not nearly as professional as if I would have paid to have them made. I couldn't believe the comments we received on the shirt. People asked where we ordered them and the "cast members" were calling us by our names. My family still wears their shirts and I would make them again for our next trip. Lastly, I paid $400 at Wal-mart for this machine.
Here's the problems I've encountered. The automatic threading (which is fantastic) broke and I had to return it. Then the bobbin wasn't winding correctly and I had to return that one. Every once in a while while I'm embroidering, the machine doesn't move properly and I have to end up cutting a big hole in the fabric to remove it from the machine. This has also happened to my girlfriend's machine. I just noticed recently that the backwards sewing function (to secure the stitch) does not work correctly, it's like the feet don't move backwards. It could be something I've done by accident and haven't figured out how to fix it yet. With all that said, I really like this machine and when it does finally break down, I will look around at all the different models and if I can't find something better I would buy this one again.
Rating : My wife loves it - W. Mackenzie, Apr 26, 2008
I should really let my wife write this review. I bought this for her for Christmas as she really wanted to go beyond her very basic sewing machine.
The number of projects she has completed with this machine is incredible; which speaks towards her enjoyment of the art and using this tool.
Downloading new patterns to the machine is extremely easy. She loves the ease of use of the embroidery feature.
Accessories are easy to come by and fairly inexpensive. She just bought a foot and finished off a neighbors prom dress.
We originally looked at much more expensive machines; however, gambled that this machine had the features and price that a hobbyist would use and could afford. Luckily we were right; the machine has worked flawlessly in the past 5 months.
Rating : Excellent value - LaShawn Wright, Feb 18, 2008
This machine does all that it claims to do. For the price, it is an excellent value. It performed better than my high-end Kenmore for basic sewing. And for embroidery, it could not be easier or more user-friendly. When I first got this machine I was a little intimidated, but finally Christmas forced me to try the embroidery. I was shocked at how easy it was. You just set it up and it does all the work. Would recommend to anyone on a budget that wants to try embroidery.
Rating : Great at First ... worked like crap in the end! - Adriana & Eric, Feb 11, 2008
The work that it did was very impressive. It's just a crappy machine in the end. It would up and stop working properly in the middle of doing a project. So much wasted thread and materials. My 1st machine lasted about 2 years. I used it for embroidery only. If I would go back and forth from sewing to embroidery, it would glitch up a lot going back to embroidery. Since I have the card program I was able to go out and buy more patterns to use with the machine. That was a nice feature. The machine it's self really needs to be better made. The hoops also don't last very long. I would go thru a new hoop about every 2-3 months. They should make metal hoops for this machine. The Large hoop should also come with the machine for the price you pay for it. My second machine only lasted 3 months. I give up, I will not buy another machine.
