Rating : Great value for the money, works very well - C. Huddleston, May 18, 2008
I installed the fan yesterday as we were experiencing a heat wave in the Bay Area. I had to install it on its side given my sliding window, and cut a piece of wood to fill in the gap (by passing the cheap plastic extensions). I used the exhaust feature on each fan, and could feel a difference within the hour. I then reversed it to bring air in last night as the temperature dropped outside, and could feel difference immediately. My room doesn't get direct sun, so it may take longer to cool a room with different conditions. I would say it's a great for the money, and will be shipping one to my Mother to help in her apartment.
Rating : Thermostat Seems Ineffective - D. Noggle, May 16, 2008
I bought this product because I thought it would be perfect for cooling the house after sun-down - and I was right. However, don't expect the thermostat to turn off the fan for you when it's cool enough because while the thermostat technically works, the sensitivity does not seem to be very good. Example: Indoor temp was over 80degrees at sunset. I turned the thermostat just barely to the point where the fan would kick on. Despite the house cooling down to 70 degrees the following morning, the fan never turned off.
Rating : Excellent for the price - T. Wan, May 15, 2008
Most of the window fans I research (price range $25-35), their features fall well below this one. It has the ability to use the fan as an exhaust system with individual controls for each side. You can have one fan bring fresh air from the outside and the other fan suck out the hot air from the inside. Reasonably quiet too. I have not attempted to clean it yet since I just got it. But I had one similar from Hampton Bay that was relatively easy to take apart for cleaning.
Rating : Perfect - Hovi, May 14, 2008
Very powerful for a small twin fan.
Exhaust kicks just as well as intake.
Can blow in & exhaust simultaneously.
Side panels extend & lock in small steps, so no worries about the panels
sliding back in towards the fan when you're mounting it.
As for the noise ??
I have it kicking now both fans on the turbo-mode & it's quieter than
any previous fan i've ever had.
A quick tip for muffling sound.
Fit the fan by extending both sides.
Cut a few strips of insulation to fit all of the way across.
on the top & bottom of the fan in the window Then close the ledge fairly tightly onto the fan.
Add a few tiny pieces of duct tape to seal
the tiny spaces.
The insulation absorbs much of the vibration which results in a quieter fan.
This also makes for an air tight installation thus allowing for a real
vacuum effect for drawing in or exhaust
