Even when it cuts the top off the can (dangerous sharp edges,) one has trouble getting the top off the device. It's easy to get started but just try to make it stop. . . impossible. My favorite is the Krups electric but for the time I needed a can opened and hadn't electricity available, I bought this. Last night I finally gave up on it and threw it in the trash.
Today I'll buy the classic hand model. Save your money.

It's pretty pathetic,sorry. It just barely moves on larger cans and hangs up on small ones. I could not recommend it.

We have pressed this into service without a hitch. The batteries haven't gone out so I can't answer the removal problem, but the current version has a small screw that reverses (retracts) the cutting blade. When that fateful day arrives, I am hopeful that it will work!

In trying to clean off my kitchen counter I purchased the Sharper Image Hands free can opener. I've been very pleased with it's performance. I have had to change the way I drain the liquid out of the cans though. I would recommend this product.

I purchased 2, thank goodness. One was defective, but I was promptly conatacted by the manufacturer and am getting a refund for that opener I was planning to give as a gift.
The 2nd opener works like a charm on big and small cans. I love the "no cut edges" since it cuts below the edge instead of on top, and even then the edge is not sharp. I will be saving lots of $$ by not having to keep purchasing rubber spatulas that get cut opening sharp edged cans the old fashioned way.
