FEDVIP : What is it?
| FEDVIP stands for Federal Employees Dental and Vision Insurance Program. It is an insurance program designed to cover all postal and federal employees including their qualified family members. Retirees can also take advantage of this program. This program allows eligible individuals to avail of dental and vision insurance at an affordable rate. Current employees will have the corresponding deductions withheld from their salaries. Individuals can choose to apply for a vision plan alone, a dental plan alone or a combination of both. The program announced its coverage to be effective on the first day of the year 2008. |

There are several types of FEDVIP that an individual can choose from. He can choose a Self-Only coverage which covers only him. He can also choose the Self Plus One, which covers him and another specified member of the family as long as that member is qualified. Lastly, the FEDVIP individual can opt for Self and Family which can cover the individual as well as the family members who are eligible for the coverage. You are probably asking who these qualified family members are who can avail of this discount? Entitled to be included under the coverage is the spouse and children who are unmarried and under the age of 22. A child who is over 22 but unable to support himself due to disability is also eligible. |
FEDVIP services are only performed by specific companies so it’s best to find out first who the carriers are. For example, only three companies are considered carriers of the vision plan of FEDVIP and those are FEP BlueVision, Spectera, Inc. and Vision Service Plan. This means that only these 3 companies will give you a discount on vision services. Eligible individuals do not have to spend time and effort looking for a cheap dental and vision plan. They can simply go online and visit the companies’ websites to obtain price quotes of the different plans. These quotes will help you in choosing the most affordable plan for your family. |
