Guide to Fire Opal Rings

Fire Opal Ring : What is it?

FireOpalRings1

A fire opal ring is a form of jewelry worn on the finger, consisting of a fire opal gem, cut and set on a metal band.  The fire opal is a specific type of opal with a red and orange base color.  It is translucent to semi-opaque and displays pleochroism at certain angles. It usually comes from Mexico, but Australian variations are also common.  The fire opal ring is usually cut with a convex surface, as opposed to faceted.  This common for most opaque gems.
