Silver bracelets come in different styles, from simple bangles to elaborate chains and charm bracelets. They are usually mixed with other metals to make them more durable, since pure silver is relatively soft. They may also be decorated with jewels and precious stones to add color.
Fine Silver Bracelets contain 99.9% silver and a small amount of hard metal, such as copper. They are very soft and pliable, making them ideal for delicate chains but not for thick bangles.
Mexican Silver Bracelets are made of 95% silver and 5% copper. They are fairly hard compared to fine silver and Britannia bracelets, but are still weak against high impacts.
German Silver Bracelets contain 80% to 90% silver, and copper or other hard metals. They are hard and durable, but have very little luster when unplated.
Luster: Make sure your silver bracelet will not lose shine or luster over time. Look for those that come with cleaning solutions so that you can re-polish your bracelet occasionally. If you are getting a plated bracelet, ask your dealer if they offer re-polishing or re-plating services.
Closure: Choose a silver bracelet with a secure clamp or snap closure to keep it from falling. Make sure it will not open or unclasp accidentally. Some bangles do not have clamps, so make sure they fit properly and will not slip through your hand.
