Amazon.com Review

This impressive appliance is designed to be easy and safe to use, clean to operate and wash, and produce exceptional food. It delivers on all accounts. The detailed instructions lead you through the process of heating oil to the correct temperature, then lowering the frying basket into the oil as the lid remains closed. This means that odors and mess are kept inside the fryer.

A Better Frying Experience

The D895UX features a patented rotating basket. This titled rotating basket revolves the food through the oil provides. The end result if that it allows you to use half the amount of oil normally required--without sacrificing anything in taste. The whole process makes surprisingly nongreasy food because the oil is heated evenly to the correct temperature. You end up with healthier, but still scrumptious, fried foods. And, the windowed lid allows you to monitor the cooking process safely.

A Host of Great Features

The fryer has a non-stick interior that is easy-to-clean, while the adjustable thermostat with indicator light allows you to set frying temperature from 300 to 370 degrees, giving you the flexibility to fry foods jus the way you like them. A built-in digital timer with bell can be pre-set; a viewing window lets you check on the food while it's cooking. Safety is built in--the sides of the fryer remain cool, and the hot oil stays inside, and non-slip feet keep fryer in place. When the food is done, there’s an exterior lift handle that makes it easy to raise or lower the basket with the fryer lid closed to prevent splattering. The 1.5-pound capacity accommodates ample French fries, calamari, or tempura for four.
Easy Cleanup

DeLonghi gives careful attention to cleanup. Forget dealing with messy, hot oil. The ingenious easy clean oil drain system makes draining and recycling cooking oil safe and easy. Simple open the door on the front of the unit and drain. A tube unfolds from a hidden compartment and efficiently drains the oil so that it can be used again--a system that's both easy and clean. The lid and frying basket are dishwasher-safe. There are two replaceable filters--dual filtration prevents the release of oil vapors and odors in the kitchen—and a detachable cord with patented condensation shield. For safer operation, the magnetic cord easily detaches from the fryer if accidentally pulled. This unique safety feature is designed with a patented condensation shield to prevent dripping onto the cord connection. The fryer measures 14-3/4 by 12 by 9-1/2 inches and weighs 10.8 pounds. --Sherry Smith

ROTO Fryer - D. Hamilton, Nov 20, 2009

I've been getting acquainted with this fryer for only a few days and, wow, what great fries, fish, chicken. But then the rotation stopped. I lifted the basket and noticed that the shaft was not turning. Amazon is sending me another.

By the way, my beer batter didn't mess up the basket. I lowered the chicken into the already lowered basket with tongs and it worked great.

Great Fryer...Works Wonderully! - S. Choudhury, Nov 10, 2009

This is the 1st deep fryer I've ever purchased. After reading the reviews for a bunch of fryers I chose this one and I have to say I am completly impressed. The rotating basket is great and ensures food is cooked evenly. We have made everything from Tempura Veggies, to Fried Chicken and Steaks (yes we figured we would try to fry steak too!) to Funnel Cakes. The fryer is so easy to use that my 11 year old daughter uses it to make fries all of the time. Its so much safer than having her stand over a pot or pan of hot oil!

delonghi deepfryer - Michael H. Childress, Oct 29, 2009

pros:
1. uses less oil
2. heats quickly, even allowing for smaller oil volume; did not check the temperature for accuracy
3. empties easily, but the filter can overflow - suggest watching drainage and this goes quickly
4. rotating basket that does seem to decrease greasiness of french fries
5. cool exterior - important to prevent burns and melting of adjacent plastic

cons: can't think of any other than you have to prepare the food yourself!

bottom line: are the fries any better, not convinced they are; but they appear less geasy

Is this eve rust proof? - Nico, Sep 30, 2009

I purchased this and used couple times. It works pretty good with 2 problems though?
IS THIS RUST PROOF? BECAUSE THE BASKET STARTED TO RUST IN JUST TWO USINGS. I' m not sure it' s food stains, or rust but I' m having great trouble reusing it until I figure out why the basket browned a bit. seems like rust but I am still investigating.

Also, the basket is incredibly difficult to clean. It' s not non- stick, so any amount of fried flour, etc will stick like hell on the basket and won' t come off even with scraping. I had it soaked in water for a day and then scrabbed it with my hands for like half hour, then used a toothbrush to clean it thouroughly. Hardly worth the trouble.
And the basket may not even be rust- proof.
Better save your money and buy a stainless steel unit, though I heard the stainless steel ones still have trouble with cleaning as the food does stick on it as well.
Well, back to the store it goes.
Nico.

My favorite Deep Fryer - M. T. Cunningham, Sep 16, 2009

I have 3 deep fryers at present...some collected over the years searching for (1) I would actually use without being deterred by cleanup and (2) that would actually produce a fried food where I could actually taste the food and NOT the oil it was cooked in. Enter the Delonghi Roto-Fryer.

It uses very little oil...and it leaves very little oil on the food I fry in it. Clean up is simple given the built-in drain, included container in which to filter the oil after the frying is done (and the oil is cool).

In all honesty, I have never tasted better deep fried food than what this machine produces, enough said.

I will say one thing, use a high temperature oil that will not "burn" readily. Peanut oil is good for this though I use the cheaper canola oil. The reason this is an issue is the simple fact the heating elements are below the fry pan so there is no proverbial "cool zone". To help lessen this effect...clean it after each use and, again, use a high temp tolerance oil.

If you deep fry donuts or other drop in foods, you would probably better served with the non-tilting/rotating model of this brand...but for fries, tots, mushrooms, etc which sit in the basket - you have found the fryer for you.

PROS: simple cleanup, very little oil used, delicious results

CONS: large footprint (for those to who counter space is an issue)
