Product Description

Krups high-speed quartz heating system takes masterful control of heat in the chamber. Each set of quartz heating element, both top and bottom, is alternately powered at the full 1600 watts to maximize the effect of radiant heat. The heat distribution is aided by a special reflective crumb tray that directs this important form of heat to all corners for excellent results. Convection heat, important for longer baking times, circulates heated air around the food for the best result in the fastest time. The defrost function uses the convection fan only and gently and evenly defrosts food without producing hot spots. This 6-slice toaster oven has temperature controls in 25 degree increments from 150-450 degrees, a digital timer from 1 minute to 90 minutes and an auto shut off after elapsed time. For toasting, it has 9 levels or browning with a countdown timer. Illuminated LCD control panel with easy to use controls and high quality soft touch buttons, it has a digital clock that displays when the cooking functions are not in use. The non-stick interior surface is durable and easy to clean. This unit includes a non-stick bake pan, broiling tray and thermal resistant tongs for safe removal of hot pans or food and comes with a 1-year warranty.

Oven great, door BAD - Breanna Hunt, Nov 20, 2009

I was really hesitant after reading the reviews, but I went ahead and purchased this oven a year ago. Basically, everything people are saying is true. The "quartz convection" technology makes the oven heat extremely quickly, and it heats and toasts in a unique way. It takes about 5 minutes to toast a crusty piece of bread, for instance, so if you're impatient, this isn't the toaster for you. But you can put a frozen-solid bagel in on the highest setting, and it will come out perfectly.

It took some getting used to, but I've had a lot of success with baking. The oven is just big enough for a frozen pizza or a small chicken. The pans it comes with aren't good for cookies, because the sides are too sloping and the surface is dark. However, with different pans, I can bake 8 normal-size cookies, and they come out with the best texture-- chewy and almost crisp on the bottom, but soft and gooey in the middle. I also LOVE how this oven doesn't need to pre-heat... I just add about a minute onto the cooking time.

Like so many other people, though, the door on my oven broke after about 11 months, and I made the warranty ON THE LAST DAY. Otherwise, it would have been $70 to fix. I'm glad I have it, and I use this oven all the time. However, expect problems with the flimsy door hinge.

Used to be fine, now it is ready for the trash - JW, Nov 20, 2009

Had this for about 3 yrs. For about 1.5 yrs it has been finiky as far as the buttons working when pushed ect. I have avoided fixing it due to time, but now I was ready. I checked with Krups to find out what parts I needed and they were quick to tell me that it can only be repaired in one of thier service centers and I could not buy the parts. Whereas I repair equipt for a living, I was a bit put off. So, I am trashing this one and buying another, needless to say it will not be a Krups or I would only be endorsing thier policies. BTW.....when it works it does the job well.....but the "working" part is the big issue.

Fatally flawed - J. Kruk, Nov 17, 2009

This toaster oven worked well for about two weeks, then its controller failed. The display froze will all pixels set, and it wouldn't respond to any buttons. A day later it seemed to recover, but would turn on only if I pushed the 'bake' button. It appeared to have lost all functions that required the upper heating element. Amazon sent a replacement quickly and painlessly, but the replacement lasted only three days before failing in the same manner. This model clearly has some fundamental flaws and should be taken off the market.

defective hinge - J&AinLacey, Nov 14, 2009

We bought the unit in July 2009. The controls and operation of the unit work great, BUT..... Other reviewers have complained about a plastic hinge breaking. Krups must have updated the unit because our door has an all-metal hinge. Unfortunately the metal hinge is a piece of "krup" too.
The glass door is held at the bottom by a large piece of sheet metal. That sheet metal wraps around the door, and on the bottom left inside of the door the metal bends out 90 degrees to form a small tab that was riveted to the spring arm that keeps the door from swinging all the way down, and the spring also holds the door shut. The metal tab completely tore off the door after just 4 months of use, so now there's no way to hold the door closed. I'll be calling customer service on Monday, but it is clear that the design is faulty -- the thin metal forming the tab to attach to the spring arm is ridiculously undersized, thus the reason for its tearing.
