- Handy measuring cup doubles as a butter melter;14 by 9 by 6-1/2-inch.
- Makes up to 18 cups in less than 2-1/2-minutes
- Produces virtually no unpopped kernels with either regular or gourmet popcorn
- Faster and more economical than microwave-bag popcorn
- Electric popper uses hot air, not oil, for a healthy, low-calorie treat
Best hot air popper! Convenient, natural and light! Pops regular or gourmet popping corn with hot air, not oil, for a healthy, low calorie treat ! Fast! Pops up to 18 cups of gourmet corn in less than 2 1/2 minutes. Leaves virtually no un-popped kernels. Plug in Presto’s PopLite and the party begins. In less than 2-1/2 minutes you’ll have up to 18 cups--two large bowlfuls--of fluffy popcorn with virtually no unpopped kernels. And because the machine uses hot air instead of oil, the resulting snack is healthier and lower in calories. That’s not to say you can’t add butter; in fact, the 1/2-cup measuring cup on top of the popper doubles as a butter melter. Simply put in the desired amount of margarine or butter (room temperature is best), and it melts from the heat produced during the popping process. The clear plastic cover and cup, which must stay on during popping so the popped corn doesn’t fly all over the room, easily remove for hand cleaning with warm, soapy water. No other clean-up is required. While a few unpopped kernels spring out the chute as the machine begins to heats up, the chute does a good job of directing the popped corn into a bowl. The popper measures 14 by 9 by 6-1/2 inches, and is identical to Presto’s Orville Redenbacher Hot Air Corn Popper except for color and logo. Presto covers the PopLite with a two-year warranty. --Ann Bieri Average Rating of 4.50 out of 315 reviews
Rating : Missing just one small thing... - Meltemi, Nov 16, 2009
This is easily the best air popper we've had/used and we've had/used a few over the years. Using the same quality corn as we have with others this popper produces a higher yield, fluffier popped corn and, importantly, less popped corn thrown around the room! However, it is missing one seemingly simple and inexpensive part... an ON/OFF switch! Your "on/off" switch is effectively the plug & outlet. 9 out of 10 times this produces a blue spark at the electrical outlet upon first contact as the machine immediately tries to draw all the current it can attain. The kids don't like to use it, probably a good deterrent in hind site, but a simple $0.10 on/off switch probably should have been included in the bill of materials...
Rating : Great Popcorn Popper - Debbie A. Britnell, Nov 13, 2009
I LOVE my new popcorn popper. I don't have any complaints. I turned the popcorn popper on and let it warm up about 3 minutes without the top on before placing the top and and putting in the popcorn as I read in another review. It works perfectly. When I hear the first pop I hold the pan close to the chute to avoid any wild kernels until the popper is full (takes about 30 seconds) then I put the pan down and let it pop. When your blowing hot air into popcorn a few wild kernels is to be expected but definitely was not any kind of problem. My sister and I used the popper to make several batches of popcorn for popcorn balls. We had the best time. One of the little measuring cups makes a lot of popcorn and I only had about 2-3 kernels left unpopped in the popper using Jolly Organic Popcorn. I would definitely buy again and plan to buy them for Christmas gifts. The grandchildren LOVE watching the corn pop and fall into the pan from the chute. Popping popcorn use to be a big deal but not any more. I really like the fact that we're not eating microwave popped corn anymore. GREAT PURCHASE!
Rating : Fast and healthy - Alder Brannin, Nov 09, 2009
This popcorn maker is great. It is fast, easy to use, and pops almost all of the kernels. It is great to have an air popper because you don't need to add a bunch of oil (although you can melt butter in the little cup at the top, if you want). The only downside is that there is no on/off switch-- plugging it in turns it on-- but that is pretty minor.
Rating : As Good As It Gets - Hose, Nov 06, 2009
I've had several air poppers over the years. My favorite has always been the Wearever Popcorn Pumper, but this Presto PopLite is almost as good.
What makes a good air popper are (1) popping chamber being sufficiently deep and narrow, and (2) hot-air fan being not so high as to easily facilitate unpopped kernels blowing out of the popping chamber.
This popper is very good on both issues!
As for others recommending "tilting popper back 30 degrees"... recommended to keep popping kernels from blowing others out of the popping chamber. If when the first couple of kernels pop you'll do this for about 15 seconds, there will be a build-up of popped kernels in the popping chamber which will prevent unpopped kernels from blowing out.
Also, recommend using a regular brand (I like Jolly Time Yellow). Premium brands, like Orville's, pop with more force and tend to blow unpopped kernels out of the popping chamber.
Rating : Fine little machine - D. F. Holway, Nov 06, 2009
Very good machine, does an excellent job without fuss or mess. Follow the simple instructions, & you'll be happy campers. We had tried a more expensive, retro styled unit that did not pop much corn. If you need more decorative effect, get out your paints and glitter. One very small negative: you might find it useful to get an extension cord with an off/on switch rated for the unit (now, you have to plug it in to start it).
