This Presto CoolDaddy electric deep fryer includes several features that help you make tasty fried chicken, fish, shrimp, and French fries for up to six people. Its adjustable thermostat ranges from 250 to 375 degrees F, and its bright red indicator light signals when the oil has reached the desired temperature so food cooks no longer than necessary. Is this product safe - Proposition 65 - S. C. Dawson, Nov 16, 2009

I just purchased this product but have not used it yet. I wonder has anyone else read [California residents: Click here for Proposition 65 warning.] Does that mean this thing causes cancer? Why would this be for California and not the whole country?

First I want to warn people. The filters that amazon suggest you get with the fryer are the wrong filters. Do not get them. Other then that the fryer is great. Cooks things up in a jiffy without smelling up the kitchen. And if you are calorie counting a deep frying like Cool Daddy fries things quickly so it saves more calories then something that just sits and absorbs oil. Now I am not saying it is a low calorie way of cooking but frying food using this method has way less calories then frying something laying in a pan of oil. I suffer from asthma and this does not smoke up the kitchen. But you have to change the filter. So make sure you buy the correct filters. It does what it is suppose to do very well.

EXCELLENT product (made the BEST tortilla chips ever!) - would HIGHLY recommend - timing a little tricky (cooks very fast) but easy to get used to. Great product/tool for the kitchen ... just don't "over use" because it will definitely add on the pounds to your waistline!

First I should say this was a replacement for a Waring Pro deep fryer, which I loved. Although I hated the clean up part so figured I'd try something new.

What I liked about the Presto Cool Daddy:

Cool touch outside..while it isn't exactly cool it wasn't scolding hot either.
No mess frying. The locking lid and handle (lowering/raising basket) both work great and do prevent any accidental splatters of oil.
Clean up is a breeze.

My big complaint is the oil does not stay hot once you put the food in and it takes it awhile to get back up to the correct temperature, which leaves you with foods soaked in oil as an end result.

I tried different oils (peanut and vegetable). I did the double fry method for the fries, but the same result--fries soaked with oil.

The quality is OK. About what I expected considering it is almost all plastic.

I will be returning the Presto Cool Daddy and purchasing another Waring Pro as it did an awesome job of retaining the temperature to get perfect fries..and other foods. The Cool Daddy just doesn't give foods the crispness I prefer when frying foods.

GREAT LITTLE FRYER FOR HOME COOKING - David, Jun 27, 2009

I used this fryer for french fries and shrimp last night. I used the basket for the fries. As instructed in the manual, I placed the battered shrimp directly in the bowl, did not use basket, shrimp did NOT stick to bwl. Both the fies and shrimp tasted great! First time I ever made home made fries and shrimp. For the reviewer who said putiing something direct from freezer into the hot oil caused a problem - all available sources tell you NOT to put moist food into hot oil. ALWAYS dry it first with paper towels or kitchen towel.
