Guide to Baritone Saxophones

Baritone Saxophone : What is it?

BaritoneSaxophone1

The baritone saxophone is one of the lower pitched and larger members of the saxophone family. It is made of brass. It has an extra loop near its mouthpiece that differentiates it from the other smaller saxophones and keeps it a practical height. It weighs 13 to 14 pounds, making it impractical to use in marching bands.

The baritone saxophone is the largest saxophone used in most modern ensemble. It is more commonly used in classical music than in orchestral music. It usually plays a similar role as the tuba in concert bands. It is played in simple rhythms to maintain the musical pulse of the ensemble.
