Coating: When choosing a nylon or a lexan guitar pick, choose one coated in a high-friction material to increase finger grip. Nylon and lexan guitar picks tend to be extremely smooth and difficult to hold.
Shape: If you are a beginner, choose an equilateral guitar pick, as all its corners have playing edges. Choose a shark’s fin guitar pick for string raking that results to a fuller sound. For faster string picking, on the other hand, consider a sharp-edged guitar pick.
Thickness: Choose a guitar pick not thicker than 0.60 millimeters for producing a heavier sound ideal for metal, punk, and rock music. For power or heavy metal music, look for one not thinner than 0.88 millimeters.
