Moving heads

Moving head lights can be tilted or panned across the stage without moving the fixture itself. High-end models have several other attributes, including color changing and mixing, prism effects, and gobo changing and spinning. They tend to make unwanted noise during movement, making them unsuitable for theatrical performances.

Scanners

Scanners use movable mirrors to direct light at specific spots. They usually include creative effects like gobo and color changers. They move faster and offer more movement patterns than moving heads. 

Patterns: Choose an intelligent light with programmable color and movement patterns so that you can operate them while working on sound or other aspects of the production. Look for one with a random pattern feature to add variety to your lighting.

Range: Choose an intelligent light that you can control from the opposite end of the room. Make sure the remote operates at low frequencies to avoid interference from mobile phones or other radio devices.

Bulb type: Choose an intelligent light with a halogen or LED bulb to reduce power consumption. LED bulbs are better for colored laser lights because they are lightweight and compact. Avoid incandescent bulbs because they use up too much power and tend to burn out quickly.
