MIDI Software : What is it?
| A MIDI software is a computer program designed for composing, manipulating, playing, and storing MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) data. MIDI is the standard for electronic communications protocol, enabling computers, electronic musical instruments, and other equipment to communicate, control, and synchronize with each other. It is the simulation of analog musical instruments converted into a specific type of digital file. A MIDI software can transmit digital data and control signals for parameters such as vibrato and panning, volume, and clock signals. The common MIDI software applications include notation, patch editing/librarian, and sequencing. |

Kinds of MIDI Softwares include the following: |
Composer MIDI software A MIDI composer software allows musical data files to be shared among various electronic instruments using a standard list of parameters and commands known as General MIDI (GM). The music is in the form of simple data in a series of “on” and “off” commands with numerical information. Compose softwares allow the manipulation of data for composing for an entire orchestra and reproducing musical instruments adhering to the GM standard. Sequencer MIDI software A sequencer MIDI software is used for recording, playing, and editing MIDI data. It is usually called a digital audio workstation (DAW). It has other features such as mixers and synthesizers. Sequencer MIDI softwares support audio tracks that can be synchronized with MIDI tracks. It is designed for synchronization with other equipment and software. |

Controls: To alter the instrument’s state of operation and modify the sound of music performances, look for a MIDI software with various controls such as faders, modulation wheels, pitch bend wheels, pitch sliders, sustain, and ribbon controllers. Interface: Choose a MIDI software with a piano-roll coordinate grid system interface to make music notation easier. |
