Transparent tape
Transparent tape is a clear, cellulose-based adhesive. It is an economical adhesive with a shiny, glossy finish that is for general uses at home or in the office. The transparent tape is also called a ‘sticky tape.’
Gaffer tape
Often used in the movie and entertainment industry, this fabric or plastic-backed adhesive is strong and highly sticky. Gaffer tape is more easily ripped by hand along its horizontal or vertical axis than cut. When removed, it leaves little or no residue.
Duct tape
Sometimes referred as “duck tape”, the duct tape has a fabric backing and are intended for metal sheet duct work.
Masking tape
With a paper backing, the masking tape contains a weak adhesive. It is non-shiny and is intended to mask areas that should not be painted. Its usual colors are heavy white or cream.
Electrical tape
Electrical tape should be made of materials that do not conduct electricity, usually plastics like vinyl. These tapes are for insulation of electric wires or materials that conduct electricity.
Surgical tape
Surgical tape is used as a bandage to hold the dressing on a wound. It is white because of zinc oxide that is added to prevent infections. Being a medical tape, its adhesive is hypoallergenic and also allows air to reach the skin.
