A duster is a cleaning tool used for removing dust and dirt from furniture, top surfaces, and other objects in the home such as doorframes, baseboards, table legs, electronics, and appliances. It can be made of natural or synthetic materials. A duster “scatters” dirt in the air, allowing it to settle on the floor where a vacuum cleaner, mop, or broom can finally clean it. It should be used before cleaning floors, walls and other major surfaces. Dusting is usually done from top to bottom.
Types Of Dusters
Kinds of Dusters include the following:
Natural duster
A natural duster can be made of bird feathers such as ostrich feathers, or wool or fur such as lambswool.
The light texture of the feathers or wool cloth easily attracts dust.
It is the best type of duster for cleaning.
However, it deteriorates easily as it sheds and depletes when wet.
It is also hard to maintain.
Synthetic duster
A synthetic duster imitates the texture of natural feathers and fur.
It is usually made of nylon bristles, making it look like a small broom.
It can also be made of yarn, acrylic, and polyester.
Some types can also be used as brushes at the same time for dusting and cleaning.
It is more durable and easier to clean than a natural duster.
However, it does not attract dust as much as its natural counterpart.
Choosing Dusters (Buying Tips)
Thickness: Choose a thick and fluffy duster to attract dust easily. Make sure it can still be used for dusting nooks and crannies.
