Glossy paper is a type of printing paper that has a shiny coating, producing a lustrous surface on one side of the paper (the printing side). The shiny surface is formulated to absorb ink immediately. Glossy papers are widely used for printing posters, photographs, and other images.
Nanoporous or microporous paper can accept both pigment and dye inks.
It produces high resolution prints with the least noticeable dot patterns.
It is water resistant and offers the highest print quality.
However, Nanoporous or microporous paper is prone to gas fading when using dye inks.
It is usually labeled as 'instant dry or 'quick-dry'.
Swellable polymers
The swellable polymer paper is designed to greatly reduce gas fading when using it with dye ink printers, allowing it to last longer than porous paper.
The paper encapsulates the ink inside a coating that works like a gelatin that swells when it reacts to ink.
It produces quality prints on dye based inkjets but are not recommended for pigment inks.
It also is not water resistant and produces slightly more noticeable dot patterns.
Ink takes more time to dry on swellable paper and a drop of water can immediately ruin it.
Contrast: Choose a glossy paper that has a high brightness rating so that the image highly contrasts on paper, making it more visible and sharper. Drying: Choose a quick drying glossy paper to avoid the chances of smudges and accidental damage. Compatibility: Choose a glossy paper that is designed for your printer: inkjet, laser, thermal, or powder.
