Paper cups are disposable cups made of paper used for drinking hot and cold beverages. They are lined with wax or plastic to prevent liquid from leaking out and soaking them. They are sold in packs in supermarkets and convenient stores. They are widely used in fast food restaurants and coffee shops.
Paper cups are produced from bleached pulp obtained from wood chips. Many claim that they are more environment-friendly than other forms of disposable cups such as plastic and foam since they come from a renewable resource and they are generally recyclable. This claim depends largely on the production, however. For example, a commercially produced paper cup with a final weight of 10.1grams requires 26 grams of wood and an additional two grams of fuel oil or natural gas to produce. In the end, they may not be as energy efficient as many think they are.
