It used for washing dishes, pots, eating utensils, and other kitchen tools. The softer variety is used for lathering up while bathing or taking a shower.

Foam sponge

  • A foam sponge is nonabrasive.
  • It is often used for bathing.
  • Its sides are lined in cotton terry.

Cellulose sponge


  • This type of sponge is made of durable cellulose.
  • It is commonly used as a kitchen sponge.
  • It can expand up to eight inches thick when soaked in water.

Abrasive sponge

  • An abrasive sponge is made of coarse cellulose.
  • It can be covered in nylon mesh on one or both sides.
  • It is commonly used for removing food grease and burnt food remains on pots and frying pans.

Choosing Sponges (Buying Tips)

Built-in handle: Choose an abrasive sponge with a built-in handle for better grip when removing stubborn grease, stains, and char marks on pots. Look for one with a bent neck for cleaning the curved areas of kitchen utensils better.

Thickness:
Choose a sponge at least five inches thick to absorb water and detergent better.
