Shelf carts

Shelf carts have one to four flat trays arranged vertically within a frame. They usually have open sides, but some have a closed back and side rails. They are commonly used to hold paper documents and file folders.

Drawer carts

Drawer carts have one or more pull-out drawers stacked on top of each other. The drawers may have key or combination locks for holding important files such as bank statements and police reports. They also hold paper items, but are they are fully enclosed and are more secure than shelf carts.

Cabinet carts

Cabinet carts consist of single- or double-door cabinets and smaller shelves and drawers. They are usually large and heavy, but they are very versatile and provide the most storage. They can also hold laptop and projector sets for office presentations.

Stability. Choose a storage cart with lockable or removable wheels to keep them from sliding around on smooth floors. Make sure they will not tilt or wobble when loaded with uneven weights. Look for one that you can tilt back for transporting over ramps.

Material. Look for an aluminum or stainless steel storage cart for holding heavy electronics such as monitors and speakers. For paper files and documents, look for one with wood, plastic, or fabric trays for lighter and easier transport.
