Wire binding machines hold sheets of paper together using plastic or metal coils. Also called double loop binders, they provide a permanent hold and are more secure than other binding methods. In most models, the paper is first aligned and punched, then laid over the wire. The wire is then closed with a lever. If metal wire is used, the ends can also be crimped to keep them in place. Wire binders are available with 2:1 or 3:1 punchers, which punch two or three holes per inch respectively.
Wire material: Choose a spiral wire binding machine for small binding projects, such notebooks and planners. For large, thick documents, choose a plastic coil binder for a more durable hold.
Punches: Choose a wire binding machine with heavy duty punches if you want to include thick cardboard covers. Make sure it will not tear delicate specialty papers like parchment and onion skin.
