Kinds of Cat Litters include the following: |
Conventional cat litter
- Conventional cat litter uses clay as an absorbent.
- It was introduced in 1947 as an alternative to sand as cat litter.
- Clay is more absorbent than sand and less messy.
Clumping cat litter
- Clumping cat litter is mostly made from granulated bentonite clay.
- It clumps together when it becomes wet, forming a solid mass that separates itself from the dry cat litter.
- The solid clump can be then easily thrown away without disposing the whole cat litter every time.
- It should be changed every four to six weeks to prevent the buildup of bacteria.
Silica gel cat litter
- Silica gel cat litter is a porous granular form of sodium silicate.
- It is the most absorbent cat litter.
- It has excellent odor and moisture control.
Biodegradable cat litter
- Biodegradable cat litter consists of pellets made from wood shavings, recycled paper, corn cubs, wood, and wheat bran.
