Lucy loves her backpack! - RaggDoll, Oct 13, 2007

I purchased the Dog-Gone device for my 18 lb Lucy about three years ago. She LOVES it and so do I. I can take her to crowded open-air markets where she used to get lost "under the crowd" and her leash tangled around people's feet. I can also take her in to a number of retail establishments because she's contained. Lucy loves her Saturday morning shopping trips to the Home Depot for supplies for our latest home project! Just this morning, I took her to the Susan Komen "Race for the Cure" in her back pack. People of all ages stop to ask where I got the device and if she's / we're comfortable. The padding is great for me, the frame is sturdy, and the mesh is breathable and comfy for her; she's never once tried to jump out. It's a great device! I leave it in my car so it's always handy when we need it!! Please don't change the product! It won't be long before I'll be purchasing a replacement!!

Great for hiking and bicycling - A. Schmidt, Jul 29, 2007

I purchased a Dog Gone Device a couple of months ago and I love it!
I have a 14 pound Maltese and he loves riding around in it when I go biking and hiking, In fact he falls asleep in it! The frame and well padded shoulder and waist straps make it very comfortable and stable to wear when I am riding.
It's easy to put him into it, I just tuck his rear legs up under him and slip him in. He's 3 years old and doesn't even need the provided restraint. A younger dog may need it at first to get used to it.
The pouch is made of a tight mesh, so it won't tear but is flexible and easy to clean. My pup doesn't seem to get hot riding around in it.
I also use it for a safety carrier in my car so I don't have to have a separate car carrier, which makes it even better.
It seams to be well made as a friend of mine has had one for several years and uses it all the time.
I would recommend it to anyone that wants to take their small dog with them.

Poorly made item - V. thode, Jul 24, 2007

I ordered this item and was very disappointed with the quality. The plastic buckles were very cheaply made, hard to open and close and will break easily. The frame was cheaply made, bent and misaligned. When worn, the bottom of the frame presses against the body painfully...it should be padded or positioned away from the body. The padded waist belt is only slightly padded and only in the back and not the sides. Definitely not worth the price. This product may be good if the quality is upgraded and design improved.

Old model is great - New model is terrible - Tahoe Karen, Jul 22, 2007

I have been an owner of a Dog Gone Device for around 10 years. It has been a wonderful product. Very comfortable to wear and easy to use. I keep it in the trunk of my car, so I can bring my Maltese dog on hikes and bicycle rides, and even into some select stores. My dog loves hiking and biking with me in his Dog Gone Device, and he's very comfortable in it. In fact, he gets downright excited every time I bring it out! It's made of a thick mesh material, allowing air to circulate through it, keeping my dog cool. It is the same Dog Gone Device shown in the product photos. However, I was in a local pet store yesterday, and saw a brand new one for sale. The packaging had a photo of the mesh version, just like what I have, but in looking inside the packaging, I noticed a very different version of the Dog Gone Device. The material they are now using to make the Dog Gone Device is not practical at all. They no longer make them out of thick, sturdy mesh, which allows the dog to have air circulation. Instead, they now use a different material - the same material you would find in any other back pack: Thick nylon Rubber-lined, with a few very small grommeted holes on either side to let air in. I'm sorry folks, but if I were placed inside a rubber-lined backpack on a warm summer day having to depend on a few small grommets for air circulation, I would BAKE! Worse, I can't imagine an animal with a FUR COAT enjoying being placed in a rubber-lined back pack on a warm Summer Day. I used to briskly recommend this product to friends and strangers, but now I can't recommend it with good conscience. If the company changes back over to the 'mesh' version of the backpack, like what I own and love, it would be the humane thing to do, and people like me would recommend it once again. If want to buy this product, request the mesh version. If they can't sell you a mesh version, go find something else more comfortable for your dog.
