Guide to Australian Saddles

Australian Saddle : What is it?

australiansaddle1

Australian saddles are characterized by free-swinging stirrups hanging dressage-style. They combine the positive traits of Western and English saddles such as fleece lined panels, D western rigging, fenders, forward seats, and horns.

Australian saddles are mainly used for trail riding. Because of their forward seats, the rider is positioned at the back with heels down and legs leaning forward a bit. In this position, the rider's weight is equally distributed to the buttocks and thighs, which allows for a more comfortable ride.

Australian saddles are safer to use compared to the others. They allow the rider to prop up a foot that can support him in case he falls. Australian saddles have built-in kneepads called poleys that protect the kneecaps and prevent them from fracturing or breaking.
