Canteens are essentially containers used to carry water or other liquids. They can be water bottles or flasks with any opening and closure systems. Some have tubing mechanisms. Soldiers, travelers, campers, bikers, and sports enthusiasts commonly use canteens.
Handheld Canteens look like water bottles. They are generally small and easy to fill with liquid. Some have insulation that allows cold water to remain cold throughout the day. Most Handheld Canteens easily fit in pockets or inside bags.
Hip Canteens are hands-free water containers designed with belts and bottle holders. Most models have hydration tubes that allow users to sip water without removing the containers from the belts. Hip Canteens are generally small and lightweight.
Canteen backpacks
Canteen backpacks are also hands-free water containers. They are designed with back straps, so they can be carried on the back or over the shoulders. They have bladders, bite valves, and long tubes that allow users to drink without actually holding them. Canteen backpacks can also store other items such as clothes, food, flashlight, and first aid kits. Most models have a capacity of 64 to 128 fluid ounces.
Capacity: Choose a canteen with at least a one-liter capacity. For hiking, biking, mountaineering, or any activity that requires two to eight hours to do, choose a larger canteen or a hydration system.
Insulation: If you want your water to remain cold or frozen inside your canteen throughout the day, choose an insulated model.
