Crab traps steel wire mesh shaped into containers for catching crabs. They are used with fish bait (usually chicken necks and fish) and lowered underwater to lure the crabs to get in.
Crab traps are used by recreational crabbers to catch crabs for game or food. Long ropes are used to lower them into the water and pull them up. Their gates automatically close when the ropes are pulled up.
Pyramid Crab Traps – also known as star crab traps – are collapsible for easy transport and storage. They come with draw cords, mesh bottoms, and four mesh sides.
They are approximately 12 to 16 inches tall.
Crab ring traps
Crab ring traps are made of steel wires coated in vinyl for rust-resistance. The crabs enter the traps through sides that slide down when the rope is pulled up.
Durability: For rust and corrosion resistance, choose a crab trap coated in vinyl.
Collapsible: Choose a collapsible crab trap for portability and easy storage.
Floats: Equip your lines with floats to warn other boats about your crab traps. Also avoid placing collapsible crab traps within 100 feet of a trotline. Set your crab traps in the morning before you set your trotline.
