Cricket Ball : What is it?
| Cricket balls usually consist of a cork core covered with a layer of string, and enclosed in a case made up of four pieces of leather. The pieces are sewn with slightly raised stitches, with one half rotated 90 degrees from the other. Additional stitches are sewn into the center, often using thick strings. Cricket balls for men's matches have a diameter between 8 13/16 and nine inches and weigh between 155.9 to 163 grams. Smaller balls are used for women's and children's cricket. Traditional cricket balls are dyed red, and white balls were introduced with the popularity of evening games because they are more visible under stadium floodlights. Brighter colors like orange and yellow were also introduced, but fell out of use because they wore out faster than standard balls. |

Texture: Choose a cricket ball with a well-polished leather cover. The ball should be smooth but not slippery, so that it can travel smoothly through the air while still providing enough grip. Look for cricket balls made with genuine rather than synthetic leather. Stitching: Make sure the stitches on your cricket ball are tight and firm. The stitches will be slightly raised, but should not be too prominent as this can create drag and slow the ball down. Choose a cricket ball with light, even stitches. |
