Guide to Cue Sticks

Cue Stick : What is it?

cuestick1

Cue sticks, also called cues, measure at least 58 inches long and weigh 510 to 600 grams. Traditional cue sticks are made of wood, but the modern sticks are now covered in fiberglass or graphite.

A typical cue stick has three parts – the joint, shaft, and bumper. In two to five-piece cue sticks, joints connect each piece to form one long, continuous cue stick. The shaft is the longest part of the cue stick, and it has three parts – the tip, the ferrule, and the butt. The tip is made of a dime- or nickel-shaped leather strip. It is held in place by the ferrule, which also acts as a shock absorber to prevent the cue stick from splitting or shattering. The butt supports the weight of the cue stick, and it is usually made of plastic or hardwood.
