Dart : What is it?

Darts are made up of two parts – a metal pointed tip and a shaft made of plastic or aluminum. They can weigh as light as 14 grams to as heavy as 50 grams. In average house games, players commonly use darts weighing 20 to 25 grams.

Types of Darts

Kinds of Darts include the following:

Steel tip darts

Steel tip darts are heavy and durable. They are used on standard bristle dart boards.

Soft tip darts

Soft tip darts have tips made of semi-rigid tapered plastic that easily pierce the holes cast in a dart board. They are used on electronic dart boards. They can be further classified according to the type of metal they are made of: brass, nickel/silver, or tungsten.

Brass soft tip darts

Brass is a fairly dense metal that is also inexpensive and readily available. They are ideal for recreational games. However, brass soft tip darts are quite soft and easily wear down or become dull.

Nickel/silver soft tip darts

Nickel/silver darts are made of a mixture of nickel and tin. They are inexpensive, harder, and more durable than brass soft tip darts.

Tungsten soft tip darts

Tungsten is an exceptionally dense metal. This makes tungsten soft tip darts heavy, durable, and highly resistant to wear and tear.

Choosing Darts (Buying tips)

Weight: If you are a beginner, choose darts weighing 21 or 22 grams.

Grip: Before buying darts, feel them in your hand. If you can grip them comfortably, you can throw them more precisely.
