Dressage Bridle : What is it?

dressagebridle1

A dressage bridle is worn over the horse's head to keep the horse bit in place (inside the horses's mouth) during training competitions. It is made up of a crownpiece, a throatlatch, cheekpieces, a noseband, a browband, and reins, which evenly distribute pressure over the horse's head when they are sewn properly together. Dressage bridles are usually made of genuine leather or nylon.

Kinds of Dressage Bridles include the following:

English horse bridle

An English horse bridle is the traditional type of bridle. It is made of genuine leather with brass, nickel or copper hardware. Also known as snaffle bridles, English horse bridles come with leather or rubber reins,  raised and padded cavessons and browbands, and buckle rein ends. It can be used with different types of bits like snaffles, curbs, gags, pelhams, and kimberwickes.

English horse bridles are ideal for everyday English riding, training, schooling, and trail riding.

Western horse bridle

A Western horse bridle does not have a noseband. It is ideal for western riding. It can have one browband or none at all. Western horse bridles come with split reins, nickel or copper-plated hardware, and curb chains.

It is a great all-purpose bridle for trail riding, lessons, and schooling.

Double horse bridle

A double horse bridle can accommodate two horse bits of almost any type. It is ideal for upper-level dressage in certain countries.

No-bit horse bridle

A no-bit horse bridle is a new innovation in bridle-making. It does not require a horse bit and other horse controlling equipment. It is made of nylon and can be used with hackamores. No-bit horse bridles have one set of reins and crossover straps that evenly distribute pressure all over the horse's head.
