Drysuit : What is it?
| Drysuits work by keeping a layer of air between the body and the water, which serves as an insulating layer against the cold. Drysuits are usually thin and snug-fitting to prevent water from getting in. They also feature waterproof zips down the front or sides, and waterproof seals on the neck and wrists. |

Kinds of Drysuits include the following: |
Membrane suits Membrane Drysuits, also called shell suits, are made of very thin waterproof fabrics. They are the thinnest type of drysuit available. These dry suits have low heat retention, so they have to be used on top of thick thermal clothing to achieve proper insulation. Their thin fabric construction tends to pinch or squeeze the skin while in motion. They are lighter and offer more maneuverability than neoprene suits, and are sometimes more durable as well. These dry suits are also less buoyant and require less weight to stay underwater. Neoprene suits Neoprene Drysuits are made of neoprene, a type of insulating synthetic rubber. These dry suits are heavier and bulkier than membrane suits and come in a wide range of thicknesses, offering different degrees of insulation. They are also more buoyant, which requires the user to wear more weight to control their depth and surfacing. They offer better insulation than membrane suits, so they can be worn with thinner and lighter undergarments. The thicker neoprene creates less pinch, but also makes the suit less maneuverable. |

Fit: Choose a drysuit with a snug but comfortable fit. Make sure the fabric clings well to your skin while allowing you to move freely. Check the cuffs and make sure they allow no room for water to get in. Insulation: Choose a drysuit that can keep you warm for long periods. Look for one made with waterproof and insulating fabrics.
