Dumbbell sets like short barbells, usually measuring 10 to 15 inches long. They vary in weight, starting from five pounds to more than 100 pounds (available in increments of five).
The use of dumbbell sets strengthens and develops the different muscle groups in the upper and lower body. They are great for body building, resistance weight training, workouts, and sports training. Dumbbell sets can be used with various exercises and workouts such as shoulder presses, bench presses, deadlifts, and biceps curls.
Adjustable Dumbbell Sets have disc plates. Simply add or remove a disc plate to alter the weight. The steel bar of each dumbbell is usually about 14 inches in length and one inch in diameter. The disc weights are secured by collars or clips.
Fixed-weight dumbbell sets
Fixed-weight dumbbell sets have permanent weights attached. They do not have any moving parts. Fixed-weight dumbbell sets can be made of either solid metal or hard plastic shell filled with concrete.
Grip: Look for dumbbell sets with non-slip grip surfaces. The steel bars should have crosshatch patterns so you could hold on to them better even if your hands sweat.
Coating: If you are buying a fixed-weight dumbbell set, make sure that it is coated with rubber. Rubber-coated dumbbells much easier to clutch.
