A fanny pack, also called a waist pack, hip pack, lumbar pack, or bum bag, is a bag strapped around the waist, hips or lower hips for hands-free and convenient carrying of small items. It has a small pouch enclosed with a zipper and a belt or straps for securing around the waist. A fanny pack is commonly used as a travel accessory for carrying small important items such as a passport, a wallet, identification cards, keys, and a mobile phone. It can be worn under the shirt to conceal weapons in public since it has the same attributes as a pistol holster. It is also a popular day hiking accessory because it is easy to carry and access. It is worn near the curve of the spine, near the body's center of balance, putting little or no strain to the body. A fanny pack can have a volume capacity of up to 10 liters.
A front fanny pack puts its weight in front and allows immediate access to its contents. It offers better security in busy and crowded areas because it is right in front of the user.
Rear
A rear fanny pack puts its weight at the rear, keeping the front of the body free and more comfortable. It is not recommended for crowded areas because it is susceptible to theft.
