A fishing parka is a heavy hooded jacket lined with fur or an alternative insulating material such as fleece, cotton twill, or polyester scrim. It has a durable shell made to be water-resistant or waterproof, and is worn over a layer of clothing to provide maximum insulation. Fishing parkas are very handy during winter or during the rainy season.
A PVC coated fishing parka is highly durable. It can resist punctures and other forms of damage. This makes them ideal for foul weather and rugged environments. However, PVC parkas are heavier than nylon parkas.
Breathability: Look for fishing parkas with linings made of breathable or a moisture-wicking fabrics such as GORE-TEX® or Dry-Plus®. You can also get one with vents at the back for increased breathability. Pockets: Look for a fishing parka with a number of small, useful pockets for carrying small fishing tools and other items. You can get one with two large bellow pocket at the waist, spacious pockets on the chest, a map pocket inside, and hand warmer pockets on the sides. Seams: Choose a fishing parka with heat-tape-sealed seams to effectively keep the water out.
