Fishing Wader : What is it?
| Fishing waders are high cut, waterproof boots with extended fabric materials that go up to the waist or the chest. Fishermen use them for wading in deep waters to catch bigger fish when angling. Earlier fishing waders were made of rubber or rubber-canvas outer shells. Later on, nylon and neoprene were used, but they were uncomfortable to use and did not allow the feet to breathe. Today, fishing waders are made of hi-tech materials such as Gore-Tex and Supplex, making them breathable, comfortable, and waterproof. They usually come in tan, sage, and camo to make them blend with the natural environment and avoid disturbing the fish. |

Fabric: Choose fishing waders with middle layers made of Gore-Tex fabric. This “breathable” membrane keeps your waders more comfortable to wear. Seams: Look for fishing waders with a high quality seam construction. The seams are the most vulnerable leak points in your waders, so make sure they are tightly sealed. The seams should be overlapped, sewn, or glued before they are taped. Insulation: Choose fishing waders with some form of insulation to keep you warm during cold weather or in cold water, and cool and comfortable during hot weather. Construction: Look for fishing waders with four- or five-layer laminate construction that can withstand rugged terrains and constant use. This construction reinforces the seat and thigh-knee areas of your waders. You can also look for a pair with an articulated knee construction for more durability. |
