Golf shoes are characterized by the 11 or 12 removable spikes on their outsoles, which provide proper traction on wet grounds. Four of the spikes are located on the heel and the remaining are spaced out on the forefoot. Golf shoes can have uppers made of genuine leather, synthetic leather, PVC, suede, or plastic.
Soft-spiked Golf Shoes are made of polyurethane. They are lightweight and comfortable to wear. However, they do not have much traction and do not usually last long. They are prone to slipping because of the elastomer materials they are made of. Soft-spiked Golf Shoes are allowed in almost all golf courses because they do not damage the grass.
Carbide- or ceramic tip-spiked golf shoes
Carbide- or ceramic tip-spiked golf shoes are made for serious and professional golfers. Their spikes are made of exceptionally durable ceramic or tungsten carbide. They are resistant to abrasions and do not wear easily. They are expensive and require regular maintenance to prevent rusting.
Metal-spiked Golf Shoes are made up of steel posts, flanges, and threads. They are very durable and can last a lifetime when used with care. Their spikes can rust if not maintained properly. However, Metal-spiked Golf Shoes are not allowed on many golf courses because they usually tear up the grass.
Choosing Golf Shoes (Buying Tips)
Waterproofing: Choose a pair of waterproof golf shoes to protect your feet from getting wet in rainy weather. If you can afford a pair, get leather golf shoes because they provide the best waterproofing.
Fit: Buy golf shoes that fit tight in the middle but still let you wiggle your toes.
