Camping heaters are portable water heating devices that can be powered by batteries, car engines, or solar sources. Most camping heaters are usually built with separate storage tanks where water to be heated is contained. They can be set to heat water according to the desired temperature.
Storage or electric-resistance water heaters are the most common type of water heaters used for camping and at home. They heat cold water and store the hot water in an insulated tank. They are inexpensive, easy to install, and require little maintenance.
Point-of-use water heaters (Tankless water heaters)
Point-of-use water heaters or tankless water heaters use either electricity or gas to operate. They require installation on near-demand areas. Most models have a heating rate of two to four gallons of water per minute.
Solar water heaters
Solar water heaters can be mounted on a flat roof surface of a tent or in a clear area within the camping site. Most models have separate small storage tanks for the water. Solar water heaters are cost-effective and efficient especially in the summer.
Desuperheaters
Desuperheaters are advanced water heaters. They are connected to portable air conditioners, heat pumps, or vehicle engines to operate. Desuperheaters use the waste heat of other devices to heat cold water.
Water capacity: If you need a lot of hot water, choose a large heater that can heat a large volume of water. However, it is heavy and can take a lot of space in your RV or tent. If space is going to be a problem, get a smaller unit.
