Hockey Jersey : What is it?

hockeyjersey1

Hockey jerseys –originally called hockey sweaters – have the same make as sweaters in that they have long sleeves, round or V-necks, and no buttons. It is usually made of a lighter and breathable fabric (like mesh) for ventilation and added comfort.  A hockey jersey is part of a hockey team uniform with the team's logo printed in front, the player's last name at the upper back, and the designated number (one to 99) printed below it. The team captain's hockey jersey has a “C” printed or stitched above right of the team logo, while the alternate captain has an “A” on the same area. Fans also wear hockey jerseys to show support to their favorite teams.

Kinds of Hockey Jerseys include the following:

Cut and sew

In a “cut and sew” hockey jersey, all the pieces are cut to size to form appropriate patterns, which are then sewn together.  Some of the patterns may include the stripes at the shoulders and the reinforced shoulders and elbows. The seams are more obvious because the patterns go over the material.

Knitted

A knitted hockey jersey is knitted by a machine.  It has a seamless and smooth feel because the stripes are knitted together.

Air knit

An air knit hockey jersey is knitted with small, mesh holes.  It is also called Aero knit, AK knit, ProVent, and Flo knit. It is mostly used for making NHL pro jersey replicas.

Dazzle

A dazzle hockey jersey is made from a soft and shiny material. It used the same material used for making basketball jerseys.

Pro weight

A pro weight hockey jersey is made from a durable material used for making professional league hockey jerseys.

Doubleknit

A doubleknit hockey jersey is made of polyester with no mesh holes.  It is used in making pro jerseys and replicas. It features knitted and seamless stripes.

Fabric: Choose a hockey jersey made from mesh fabric, which is not only soft to the touch, but also less irritating to the skin.

Colorfast:  If you intend to customize your hockey jersey, look for one that can be easily colored and can retain color for a long time.
