Guide to Hunting Boots

Hunting Boot : What is it?

HuntingBoots1

Hunting boots are footwear especially designed to withstand the rigorous and rugged requirements of hunting.  They are similar to hiking boots in look and feel, but they have added features such as cork-and-memory foam EVA foot beds that eliminate odor, preventing animals from detecting the hunters with their keen sense of smell. Hunting boots are usually made of nylon, Gore-Tex, steel shanks, animal hide, rubber, Cordura, and other durable, synthetic materials.

Kinds of Hunting Boots include the following:

Cold weather

  • Cold Weather Hunting Boots have special insulation features that keep the feet warm and dry.
  • They commonly use thinsulate ultra insulation or wired insoles electrically powered by batteries to provide constant warmth for six to eight hours.
  • They also have waterproof systems for keeping the feet dry on icy grounds.

Field and stream

  • Field And Stream Hunting Boots are used in varying terrains like open fields, forests with thick vegetation, muddy waters, and streams.
  • They are designed with breathability and ventilation features for use in hot weather, and with more insulation for use in cold weather.
  • They are made with moisture wicking linings made of nylon.

Slip-on

  • Slip-on Hunting Boots are ideal for warm weather conditions.
  • They are designed to be more flexible and comfortable.

Choosing Hunting Boots (Buying Tips)

Boot uppers:  Choose hunting boots with sturdy leather uppers if you want more protection from abrasions caused by rocks, thistles, and sticks. For waterproofing, look for those with uppers made of  full grain, water-resistant or waterproof leather. If you want lightweight and flexible hunting boots, choose a pair with uppers made of fabric panels.

Design:  For uniformity, choose hunting boots with a camouflage pattern to match your hunting clothes.

Gusset:  Look for hunting boots with padded gussets (area where the tongue meets the rest of the boot) for added comfort when you tighten your laces.

Fit:  Look for boots that allow your feet little movement. Too much feet movement inside the boots can give you “hot spots” or blisters.

Insoles: Choose hunting boots with removable insoles that allow the  custom fitting of your feet whether they are flat, highly-arched, or normal.

Collar padding:  Choose hunting boots with soft, padded collars to prevent them from rubbing against your skin and irritating your legs.
