Kids’ wetsuits come in smaller sizes and are usually lighter than adult wetsuits. They are also more buoyant to compensate for children’s lack of flotation abilities. Most kids’ wetsuits are made of neoprene, a synthetic insulating rubber, usually mixed with lycra to make them more stretchable and flexible.
These wetsuits are designed to fit children from one to two years old. They usually have front zippers. Smaller models can be opened with a Velcro strap at the crotch. They are thinner than other kids’ wetsuits, usually about 1.5 millimeters thick. One-piece jumpsuits
These wetsuits are larger and made of thicker nylon material, usually about three millimeters thick. Their seams are usually thicker, often triple-glued or tape-stitched for a better hold.
Fit: Choose a kids’ wetsuit that fits snugly around your child’s body. Make sure the wrist, neck, and ankle cuffs are tight and will not allow any water to get in. Look for slightly elastic fabrics that cling well to the skin.
Insulation: Choose a kids’ wetsuit that can keep your child warm for long periods underwater. Look for those made of thick neoprene, preferably with wool or other soft fabric underneath for added insulation.
