Lacrosse Goal : What is it?
| Lacrosse goals are netted frames placed on either end of a lacrosse field. Each lacrosse field has two goals, so that teams can score by driving the ball into the goal at the opponent's side of the field. Official lacrosse nets are six feet high, six feet wide, and seven feet deep.
Lacrosse consist of a mesh net stretched over a rigid frame, usually with the bottom bent back to create a sturdy base. The frames can be made of steel, aluminum, or synthetic piping, and usually painted orange for better visibility. The net is usually braided nylon or polyester.

Folding lacrosse goals
Folding lacrosse goals have jointed frames which can be folded for easy storage and portability. The frames are usually made of lighter materials, such as plastic or polyvinyl chloride (PVC). They are usually pre-strung with nets for easier setup. They are ideal for traveling teams or those who practice at different venues.
Semipermanent lacrosse goals
Semipermanent lacrosse goals can be installed into the ground and removed after use. They cannot be folded up, but usually have a modular design that allows them to be assembled and taken down easily. They can also include ground sleeved, which support the uprights to keep them from leaning over.
Permanent lacrosse goals
Permanent lacrosse goals are installed into the field, intended for long-term use. They usually have heavier frames made from galvanized steel or aluminum. They also use tougher nets that can withstand various outdoor conditions. |
Stability: Choose a lacrosse goal that can stand up to strong winds and rain. If you are getting a permanent goal, go for heavy, reinforced steel frames since weight will not be a problem anyway. For portable goals, make sure the ground bars are flat, even, and sturdy. Synthetic materials like polyurethane offer a good balance between lightness and stability.
Durability: Make sure your lacrosse goal is tough, sturdy, and will last several years. Look for protective features like heat resistance and waterproofing. The netting should me thick and braided, and preferably quick-drying to protect it from rotting or shrinking. This is especially important for permanent nets, since they will be subjected to a lot of weather abuse.
Visibility: Choose a lacrosse net that you can easily see from across the field, which makes it easier to aim. Make sure it is visible in all light conditions, including extremely bright or overcast days. Look for one with a bright, fluorescent orange frame. Finer mesh nets create a more solid color and are also more visible. |
