Leg press machines are compound exercise equipment used in weight training. They have counter-weights that gravitate towards the legs and provide resistance when pushed. A leg press machine is used to evaluate overall lower body strength and to build muscles in the lower body (such as the quadriceps, hamstrings, and the gluteus maximus). More experienced strength trainers can push weights of up to 2,000 pounds or more. Beginners are advised to start with lighter weights because heavy weights can easily cause muscle strain or injury
Types Of Leg Press Machines
Kinds of Leg Press Machines include the following:
A sled type leg press machine (also called diagonal or vertical leg press) has cast iron weight discs attached directly to the sled. It is made up of a padded backrest and a sled mounted on rails. The user is seated below the sled and pushes upward with the feet. The sled does not move until the knees are at the right angle to prevent straining the knees and the lower back.
A cable type or seated leg press is commonly found in home gyms. The user sits upright to be able to push padded brackets with the feet. It is attached to a weight stack where the plates or weight discs are held in place by a steel cable.
Choosing Leg Press Machines (Buying Tips)
Safety brackets: Choose a leg press machine with an adjustable safety bracket to keep yourself from being trapped under the weight of the leg press.
Space: If you have a small room space, choose a cable type leg press machine because it takes up a minimal amount of space but provides the maximum benefits.
